FORD POWER PRODUCTS RECEIVES EMISSIONS CERTIFICATION FOR

NEW 1.6-LITER ENGINE FOR 2003

Three engines now meet California ARB emissions standards

DEARBORN, Mich., March 31 2003 – Ford Motor Company has received 2003 emissions certification for its new 1.6-liter industrial engine.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has now issued Executive Orders that Ford’s 1.6-, 2.5- and 4.2-liter engines meet emissions standards for all fuels (gasoline, LPG and CNG), operating under 4,000 rpm.

Ford Motor Company holds the Executive Orders for certification and sale through Ford Power Products and its Distributor organization.

“Ford Power Products is committed to being a leader in Large Spark Ignited (LSI) industrial engines," said John Andreas, director, programs and engineering, for Ford Power Products. These Executive Orders prove that engines from Ford Power Products meet the most up-to-date and stringent emissions standards in the industry.

The 1.6-liter engine replaces the popular Ford 1.3-liter engine, which is not being certified for 2003. The 1.6-liter industrial derivative offers numerous advantages over its predecessor, including more horsepower, better fuel efficiency, increased durability, and more torque. The 1.6-liter engine is rated from 52 to 63 intermittent horsepower, depending on fuel type.

The new certification applies to 2003 model year production. The TSG-416 engine is now certified by CARB for all fuels, including:

·         Gasoline

·         LPG

·         CNG

·         Gasoline - LPG Dual Fuel

·         Gasoline - CNG Dual Fuel

·         LPG-CNG Dual Fuel

Ford is taking a proactive approach in preparing for Jan. 1, 2004, when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will begin requiring industrial engines to meet the emissions standards currently enforced by CARB. As part of this process, manufacturers or distributors will be required to hold certificates stating their engines meet the emissions standards.

“Ford is leading the industry in preparing now for the emissions standards we’ll face in 2004,” said Andreas. “Industrial engine customers, such as OEMs, should be asking their current suppliers if their engines will meet these requirements.”
